About this deal

It's roll to move, which can be a knock against it for sure, but there's still meaningful choices to be made. I have also been able to teach this to a group of 3 rd graders who were able to play the basic game on their own by midway through the first game – and that’s a wonderful trait to have in a game that can also be played by adults. I felt the basic game was a little “tight” and was hesitant to make the game harder (particularly with my younger boys. With this Kai and Ras's Car and Bike Battle ninja toy for kids aged 4+, young ninjas can reenact events from the NINJAGO Dragons Rising TV series. Moving with skill and strategy through rooms and hallways, you and your team will be picking up and dropping off Treasure Jewels.

Trust me, don’t dismiss this game or enter into it thinking that it will be easy… You’ve been warned! But I have no shame to admit that the original version of the game - simply trying to get the treasures out by any means necessary before six rooms are haunted - is still quite enough challenge for us. Disclaimer: I received this game for free in exchange for my review, but believe me, I post authentic reviews every time and will be brazenly blunt if needs be. Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters is a great example of a thematic cooperative game that isn’t just about placing and removing cubes on a map. Not only that, but there are cards that make some of the doors lock so that your players can’t enter or exit when the locked doors are in play.

You roll a dice to move, but if it lands on one with a ghost (which it usually does), you have to put a ghost down wherever the card you have to pick up says. Movement is more restricted, jewels take longer to claim, so now working together and managing the haunting becomes even more important. If a board game sparks our imagination we can take that experience and use it later in the backyard together. Instead of a bunch of modules, you get a totally new mode of play, something that, to me, actually feels more like Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters 2. Ghost Fightin’ Treasure hunters then is a simple game, but one that encourages cooperation and prioritisation of controlling the ghost population or getting the gems out.

Meanwhile, my daughter Grace and I were able to beat Creepy Cellar on Nightmare mode within our first handful of plays. I had assumed a 2 player game was going to be harder since you had fewer people to carry gems, but the added focus seemed to compensate. It’s not only a game my kids enjoy playing on their own as well as with us, but a game that I will happily break out without the kids. was for the kids to sneak into the house, grab a treasure, get back out of the house and drop it off, then repeat that for all eight treasures. This is nice in a kids’ game, as a “good run” can be enough to turn the tide for less experienced gamers. All players work as a team to escape from the house with all 8 Treasure Jewels before 6 of the rooms become haunted. Some of the cards lock certain color doors and others require you to add more ghosts to the mansion.
