About this deal

Importantly, the on/off function can be locked by simply holding both buttons down for a few seconds; there's little worse than reaching into your pack to find your torch has been knocked on accidentally and is nearly out of charge, so I do question the wisdom of any design without a lock. However, it does not allow for as wide a range of angle adjustments as lights like Princeton Tec's Byte headlamp. Its brightness memory means that you can turn the light off at a chosen brightness without it reverting back to the default when you switch it back on, and PowerTap function means you can alternate between full strength and dimmed light by tapping the side of the torch, though it is very easy to do this by accident!

However, I'm really looking forward to taking advantage of the waterproof feature for kayaking and paddle boarding this summer. The Black Diamond Storm 450 is a robust waterproof and dustproof headlamp that pumps out 450 lumens of light. Means you don’t have to worry about rain or if you somehow end up in a lake, or if you are going to use it for lots of varied outdoor activities. Black Diamond claims that it has an output of up to 100 lumens and a range of up to 70 meters and I have no reason to doubt these claims. The smaller left hand button switches between spot, flood, and coloured light for night vision (with a choice of red, blue or green - all three being pointless complications as far as I'm concerned, but presumably someone wanted them). We also use both 1st party and 3rd party cookies to improve the user experience on our site and offer relevant marketing. The headlamp has Black Diamonds Brightness Memory feature, which allows you to turn the light on and off at a chosen brightness without reverting back to the default, full power setting. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Another nice feature of the Storm is the ability to lock it in the off position, which will keep it from accidently turning on while it stuffed in your backpack. It's the same setup as the Storm, with one LED for wide-angle proximity lighting and another for long-distance spotlighting.

Weighing in at just 120g with batteries, this headlamp can run for up to 150 hours when used on minimum power. Our team are working extended hours to get through this as quickly as possible, we ask you to be patient during this busy time. For Scottish winter mountaineering it'd more than do in main torch mode (though I'd prefer the Storm as my primary light), but it's also nice and compact if you're carrying it as your backup. The four AAA battery configuration also simplfiies use with rechargeables, since many chargers require an even number of batteries. I'm not sold on the ability to dim the beam since I'm often unsure what level of output I've set it to and have to keep going back to check: for me, three discrete modes (low, mid and high) would be plenty, and clearer than an undifferentiated scale.Increasing the light output is done in the same manner by continuing to press the on/off switch—the light will decrease to its lowest output and then will begin to gradually increase its output. But this rugged model has a lot more potential than that, with a balance of brightness and burn time that'd make it equally.

I hope you found my blog useful or entertaining, any donations given go towards more adventures and therefore more blogs and equipment reviews! From summer hills and crags, to camping, and even potentially running, there are lots of occasions when something a bit lighter and more compact might better fit the bill.I loved that the mass is entirely situated around the lenses themselves—there’s no accessory battery pack pressed up against the back of your skull. and in addition you will find brands such as Gerber, The North Face, Suunto, Klymit, Seeland, Trangia, Mil-Tec and many, many more. These two white single power LEDs are the second light that is cycled to when the on/off button is pressed. Featuring a more compact design, updated user interface, and a multi-faceted optical lens design that saves battery life and provides 400 lumens of powerful light, the Storm 400 is ready for any mountain mission. I've had the same set of AAA batteries in the lamp since purchasing it in fall 2011 with intermittent use since, and the output is still great.
